Clemens Fuest is President of the Munich-based ifo Institute for Economic Research. From March 2013 Fuest was President of the Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim, and prior to that he was Professor of Business Taxation at Saïd Business School, at the University of Oxford, and Research Director for the Oxford University Centre for Business Taxation. Before his work at Oxford, he was a lecturer at the University of Munich and a professor of economics at the University of Cologne.

 

He is a research fellow of CESifo and IZA, member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, a member of the Editorial Board of Fiscal Studies and Associate Editor of Finanzarchiv/Public Finance Analysis. He is also a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the German Federal Ministry of Finance and a member of the Academic Advisory Board of Ernst and Young AG, Germany. Additionally, Fuest has a PhD in economics from the University of Cologne.

 

His research focuses on the implications of globalisation and European integration for tax policy, the impact of taxes on firm behaviour, and the debt crisis in the Eurozone. He has been published widely in international academic journals and has also featured in several international newspapers including the Wall Street Journal, Handelsblatt and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.
