Fred is founder of Primavera Capital and prior to this was Chairman of Greater China for Goldman Sachs. He was key to developing Goldmans’ presence in China and led some of the largest and most significant transactions in the firm’s history.
He is a respected economist whose main areas of research interest include macroeconomics, international finance and capital markets. Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Fred worked in macroeconomic research at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and was involved in policy consultations for a number of member states including China.
He has advised the Chinese Government on financial reform, restructuring of state-owned enterprises and macroeconomic policies. Fred sits on the Hong Kong Government’s Strategic Development Committee and the Advisory Committee for the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission. In addition to several corporate and charity directorships, Fred is Chairman of the Nature Conservatory’s China Board. He is also Co-Director of the International Centre for Economic Research at Tsinghua University. Fred is a member of the editorial board for various academic journals and is a columnist for leading business publications in China. Fred speaks on the future of China, Asian economies, global finance and economics.
