Ruby McGregor-Smith is the Chief Executive of Mitie Group plc, the strategic outsourcing company.
Ruby joined Mitie in 2002 as Group Finance Director and was appointed as CEO in 2007. She saw Mitie grow its revenue from £0.5bn to over £2.0bn, continuing its unbroken track record of profit and revenue growth.
She is one of a small number of women who have held the position of Chief Executive in the FTSE 250 or FTSE 100 and is the first Asian woman to be appointed in such a role within that group of companies.
Ruby trained as an accountant and prior to joining Mitie and worked at Serco for nine years in various financial and operational roles.
Originally from India, Ruby’s family moved to the UK aged two, living in the London Borough of Harrow where she attended local comprehensive schools. Having come from an underprivileged background, she is passionate that anyone can be successful regardless of their gender, skin colour, disability or hardship.
She was the Chair of the Women’s Business Council from 2012-16 and has represented the UK government as a trade ambassador. She is also a non-executive board member of the UK Department for Education.
